There is a layer of muscle that covers the stomach or the front of the torso. These muscles look like a layer of 6 bricks and can indeed be developed to the hardness of bricks. However, these muscles – called ‘Rectus Abdominis’ – begin to lose their tone at the earliest sign of over eating and sedentary lifestyle. The Abs, as they are often referred to, must be regularly exercised to help maintain their tone and strength. Some of the best exercises are mentioned here for people who want to work out at home.

The following exercises must be repeated 15 times per set in sets of three daily. A break of 2 minutes is advised between each set of 15 repetitions.

Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Place your hands on your upper abdomen. Raise your head and shoulders about 6 to 8 inches off the ground while breathing in. Hold your breath for 3 seconds and relax to a lying position.

Lie on your side propped up on an elbow with your legs stretched and toes pointing away from your head (pointing down as if you were standing). Place the other hand in front of your stomach. Now raise your leg as high as you can while breathing in, hold for 3 seconds and bring the leg down. Repeat 15 times in 3 sets. Repeat with other leg as well. This reduces fat deposits on the Oblique muscles – your love handles – and also your thighs.

Lie on your back with your legs folded at the knee and feet flat on the floor. Hands by your side raise your knees to touch your chest. Breathe in while raising up hold for 3 seconds then lower to first position. Repeat as advised.

These simple exercises will not take more than 30 minutes daily and will considerably reduce fat deposits on and around your abdomen making you feel good and looking great!
