Aortic Aneurysm Causes & Symptoms

Aortic Aneurysm Causes & Symptoms - Information On Aortic AneurysmAortic aneurysm occurs when a section of the main artery of human body, the aorta, bulges. It is to be understood that aorta is responsible for carrying oxygen rich blood from the heart to different parts of body. If aorta bursts due to aortic aneurysm, severe bleeding can occur, which can also lead to death.

Aneurysms or bulges can occur in any section of aorta but they are mostly formed in belly region and are called as abdominal aortic aneurysm. If these bulges appear in the upper part of body, they are called as thoracic aortic aneurysm. There are many reasons due to which aortic aneurysms occur. Wall of aorta is quite elastic and can be easily stretched.

It regularly shrinks and stretches for maintaining the flow of blood to different parts of body. If a person suffers from disorders like high blood pressure or hardening of arteries, which is also called as atherosclerosis; walls of aorta can become weak. Due to this, it can bulge outward resulting in aortic aneurysm. In older age, due to wear and tear etc, aorta looses elasticity and hence chances of its bulging out increases. Thus, chances of aortic aneurysm increase automatically.

In most of cases, no symptoms are caused due to aortic aneurysm. It is during some examinations or tests that health care providers come to know about this. However, people who regularly complain for chest or belly pain or similar discomforts must see a doctor and ask for aortic aneurysm. Symptoms mentioned above may remain constant or can come and go.

Due to aortic aneurysm, some problems can occur in body. For example, a clot can be formed due to slow movement of blood in the bulge. If this clot gets broken off in the chest region, it can travel to brain and can result in a stroke. If this clot breaks off in the belly region, it can restrict the flow of blood to legs. The worst case of aortic aneurysm is rupturing or bursting of aorta. As a result, severe pain is caused and profuse bleeding occurs. A person can also die in a duration of several minutes to few hours, which depends upon certain factors.
