Barbecue Grills - Types of Barbecue Grills - Categories of Grill - Different Types of Barbecue Grills | Tips on - Find TipsSummer is the time to cook some great barbecues on your backyard. To cook a barbecue, besides the meat and spices, you need a nice grill. Barbecue grills are available in different shapes and sizes. However, there are only three categories of grill – gas, charcoal and electric.

Charcoal grill

Charcoal is the traditional fuel used in grilling. To prepare a conventional barbecue, you will pile up charcoals and ignite them with a match. When the charcoals begin glowing, they are spread around and you place the meat to be barbecued on the grill. The cooking time is determined by the amount of charcoal and the volume of air circulating through the barbecuing chamber.

Despite the hassles of preparing the grill and cleaning it, the taste of the barbecue prepared on a charcoal grill is simply incomparable. Gas and electric grill cannot produce the same smoky charcoal flavor. The contemporary kettle-style charcoal grill, however, has fewer hassles. They are portable and can be carried anywhere on the beach or on a camping site.

The wood smoker burners, which use charcoal or wood as fuel, are suitable for barbecuing large chunks of meat. To keep the meat away from direct heat, the fuel chamber is located at the side of the barbecue unit. The slow indirect cooking method reduces the chance of the meat being burnt. However, the large size of the barbecue unit makes it difficult to be carried around.

Gas grills

Gas grills use either natural gas or propane as fuel. Propane gas grills are cheaper than natural gas grills. Due to the easy availability of propane, these grills can be easily carried to any place. The propane supply comes from a refillable metal tank. To work with a natural gas grill you should have a gas outlet to connect the grill. However, natural gas grills produce high heat and the cooking time is short.

Electric grills

Electric barbecues grills are simply portable electric ovens. If you have a cord or electric point, you can install it at any place. You can easily control the temperature and it is easy to clean. However, electric grill is more expensive than charcoal and gas grills.
