It is a mental condition in which the patient will have different moods of extreme poles. It may affect any person at any age and is a life long disease. The moods of mania and depression will make his life miserable and it will affect his career also. The different moods will last for weeks and it will create mood episodes for him. He will be swinging in between the moods and will have different energy levels depending on the mood. There are different types of bipolar disorders.

Types of Bipolar Disorders

1. Bipolar I Disorder

The patient will be having many manic episodes or mixed episodes. It may have major depression episodes also. He will be swinging with in the extreme moods and may experience the both extremes on the same day. Bipolar I disorder is the sever form of this disease.

2. Bipolar II Disorder

In this situation the patient will have many depressive episodes along with one hypomania episode. In hypomania mood the patient will behave milder than mania mood but it will be dissimilar to the normal situation. Hypomania episodes sometimes will go unnoticeable but at some other times will create problems. The person will have normal mood in between these episodes.

3. Cyclothymic Disorder

Here the patient will have mild depressions and hypomania in a mild form. The episodes will be shorter and it may be less severe also. Some people with cyclothymic disorder may build a sever form of bipolar disorder later in their life and at many times it won’t happen. He must be careful to avoid the impairment caused by the disease in his social life.

4. Rapid –Cycling Bipolar Disorder

It is described as a disorder that may have all the mood episodes, four or even more in a period of one year. Some will have all moods in a single day or in a week. Most probably this will develop in the later stage of the disease and women are more prone to this type. It will cause suicide temptations in the patient.

5. Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified

One person may show symptoms of mania or major depression once in a while. This situation won’t fall in to any other categories hence it is called not otherwise specified.
