Conduct disorders may also take place in adults. Conduct disorder if not treated at the right time during childhood or teen years may give way to antisocial behaviours during adulthood.

Children or even adolescents maybe often found to be whining, yelling, throwing temper tantrums or may even get aggressive at times. Yet these behaviours are under normal behaviour associated with children’s growing up.

Even adults may at times show aggression due to loss of temper, on provocation, frustration or for defence. But conduct disorder is something quite different from all these and should be understood in order to identify it early among children or even adults.

Many times we come across kids who are called in disciplined, ill-mannered and aggressive and we try to avoid these kids. However instead of avoidance one must deal with the problem to nip it off at the bud itself.

Conduct disorder is characterized by high level of violence and aggression towards others and also animals, abusive both verbally and physically, displaying defiance and truant behaviour, high level of indiscipline, stealing behaviour, intentional destructive behaviour and breaking social norms without concern for others rights.

An individual with conduct disorder is characterized by deceitfulness, breaking of rules, aggression and destructiveness. Conduct disorder being a psychiatric condition can be diagnosed by experts through case history, information from family and friends and also through testing.

Conduct disorders are usually found to happen with kids who have suffered abuses in any form, belong to broken or poverty stricken homes, has seen parents or role models behave abusively, being raised in unfavourable environment etc. Thus conduct disorders have the basis on environment, genes or may happen even due to some medical condition.

Conduct disorder can happen to anybody and it’s not a shame to get it treated. One can also make others suffering aware of this disorder to get cured as this becomes a social issue. Conduct disorders can be dealt at home through parental and family support, empathy and love.

Individuals or kids with conduct disorder must be given professional treatment in the form of medication along with psychotherapy, behaviour modification therapies and family therapy. School based and community based interventions along with life skills and interpersonal skills training also modify behaviour in a positive way.
