Parrots require proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats, sugar etc for their healthy living. Seeds and nuts alone can’t meet all these requirements. Cereals, grains, vegetables, cooked meat etc can meet their protein requirement while fruits supply sugars and seeds supplies fat. Now a days bird food is available in pellet form which is meet almost all nutrient requirements.

Food that can be Fed to the Parrot

1. Vegetables

Vegetables make an important part of the bird diet and they require nutrients from vegetables as human beings do. Vegetables like green leafy vegetables, tomato, beets, zucchini, carrots, broccoli, squash, peppers, green beans, peas etc can be given to your parrot. You can also feed your parrot with frozen vegetables after thawing.

2. Cereals

Cereals are good for your birds. You can also feed your parrot with cereals of your breakfast table but it is good to avoid sugary flakes. You can give them pasta, oatmeal, rye, rice and even a whole wheat bread is ideal.

3. Meat

You can give your bird cooked meat, boiled eggs, cooked chicken as they will provide proteins to your pet. You can even feed your bird with well cooked bones of chicken. If the birds are feed with too much meat, then it effect the kidney. Hence feed them with meat products once or twice in a week.

4. Fruits

Fruits can supplement a lot of sugar and water to your bird. This might help your bird to avoid dehydration. Fruits like apple, pears, banana, grapes, cherries, mangoes, kiwi, apricots etc are good for birds.

5. Seeds and Nuts

Nuts and seeds are rich in fat and so give them to your birds in small quantities. Ensure that the nuts and seeds are shiny and devoid of fungus, mold and insect attack. While feeding your pet with nuts and seeds you must consider their nutritional requirement also. Because the Amazon parrots, budgies etc are susceptible to obesity while macaws needs more fat.

6. Water

Water is essential for the healthy living of the bird. Give them pure water which will help them to avoid dehydration.
