Intense Pulsed Light(IPL) Therapy is a treatment that positively affects the appearance of the skin. Intense pulse light therapy is useful in a number of skin problems like stretch marks, brown spots caused by pigmentation, birth marks, wrinkles, blemishes, dark hairs and also reduces the red colored small blood vessels on the skin.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy works on the principle that light energy is absorbed by the specific target cells in the body which has got color. These colors are induced by the chromophores present in the cells. The high intensity pulses of broadband lights are used here and are delivered deep in to the skin while the epidermis remains untouched. This light energy is then converted in to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area.

IPL Machines

There are different types of machines for IPL Therapy. They are classified based on their type and level of penetration

1. PhotoDerm VL (Vascular Lesions)

In PhotoDerm VL light pulses are aimed at the varicose veins, spider and thread veins and on vascular birth marks. The light pulses target the red-pigment, hemoglobin in the blood. The specific wave length of the light pulse is controlled by a highly advanced computer. Thus it helps to heat and destroys the pigments without affecting the skin or other normal tissues. The depth of penetration and degree heat are highly controllable here.

2. PhotoDerm PL ( Pigmented Lesions)
Light pulses are focused at the wrinkles and freckles, pigmented birthmarks and other types of skin discolorations such as mask of pregnancy and melanosis of the neck. The specific wave length light pulses focus on the melanin in the skin’s surface by which melanin gets heated and destroyed to removes skin discolorations.

3. PhotoDerm HR and EpiLight (Hair Removal)

The light pulses are focused on the hair follicles causing the hair to fall out. This is ineffective for light colored hairs and is not for ever. It can be used for hair in any location.
