Fat Soluble Minerals and Vitamins - Fat Soluble Antioxidant - Fat soluble Nutrient - Fat Soluble Vitamins » Fat soluble vitaminsThe human body needs different types of micronutrients. It requires vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and fats to keep it running. The human body will work like a well oiled machine when it is provided with all the necessary nutrients. These nutrients may be obtained in the due course through our daily diet.

It so happens that we do not always obtain the required amounts of vitamins and minerals through our diet. It then becomes important to consume them in the form of supplements. In the absence of this, the body will suffer from a deficit and will be nutritionally deficient.

Vitamins are very important for the body. They can be broadly classified as fat soluble and water soluble vitamins. The fat soluble vitamins are so called because they are easily stored in the fatty tissue of the body. They are also stored in the liver.

These vitamins are held by the body akin to reserves and stores and can be tapped upon as and when most required by the body.

It is imperative to understand that these vitamins need to be consumed in the right levels. Any amount in excess of what the body requires can be detrimental to health.

It helps to understand what the optimal consumption level is for each type of fat soluble vitamin and regulate intake accordingly. There is the base line requirement called the RDA or the recommended daily allowance up to which it can be consumed.

There is also a tolerance level set that is technically called the tolerable upper limit. This is higher than RDA and indicates the maximum level of consumption, beyond which the vitamins become detrimental to the human body.

The fat soluble vitamins are vitamins A, D, E and K. These can be consumed through regular diet and also through supplements.

Vitamin A: Is known to promote eyesight. It helps to prevent degeneration of eye muscles. It also improves overall immunity. It helps to keep the skin and the mucous membranes supple. It is highly recommended for children to improve eye sight.

It can be found in all fruits and vegetables that have a yellow or orange hue, such as carrots and papaya. It is also found in green leafy vegetables like spinach. It is abundantly found in dairy products and eggs.

Vitamin D: or the sunshine vitamin as it is called is important for bone health. It helps in the absorption of calcium. It can be obtained through sunshine as a natural source and also from milk.

Vitamin E: plays the role of an antioxidant and prevents diseases of the immune system.

Vitamin K: has coagulating properties and a deficiency can cause bleeding that cannot be stopped. It is obtained by consuming green leafy vegetables.
