Golden Kela Awards 2011 Winners List

Golden Kela Awards 2011 Winners List - Shah Rukh, Sonam Named Worst Actors At Golden Kela AwardsFollowing the trend of the Razzie Awards in Hollywood, Bollywood has come up with its own spoof awards show of sorts. Titled ‘The Golden Kela Awards’, the event aims to solicit the worst films, actors, actresses and directors etc. of the year gone by.

While this would most probably be not a night to remember for many people in the industry who consider the event a waste of time and money in addition to terming it as downright sarcastic, there are a few members of the Bollywood fraternity who think that the awards are a source of fun and enlightment and should not be taken seriously!

And so with that, we go to this year’s annual Golden Kela Awards which was held on Saturday (March 13, 2011) in Rockdome at the Ambience Mall in Gurgaon, Delhi.

The event was hosted by Cyrus Broacha who was his wittiest best as usual. Celebrating it’s 3rd consecutive year, the awards function was presided by the likes of Praduman Singh (Tere Bin Laden), Habib Faisal (Do Dooni Chaar), Vishal Bharadwaj, and Abhisek Chaubey etc.

This year, the two biggest honors were bestowed upon the Bollywood Badshash, Shah Rukh Khan and Sonam Kapoor who won the Golden Kela Awards for the Worst Actor and Worst Actress respectively. While Shah Rukh Khan won the award for his performance in ‘My Name is Khan’, Sonam bagged the award for her role in ‘Aisha’.

Shah Rukh’s Worst Actor Award created a mild controversy of sorts at first, owing to the fact that the actor had won the ‘Best Actor Award’ for the same role during the Filmfare Awards this year.

‘My Name is Khan’ also bagged the Golden Kela Award for the Worst Film. The Golden Kela for the Worst Director went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his latest release ‘Guzaarish’ which didn’t fare all that well at the box office. ‘Guzaarish’ also received the Golden Kela for a category titled as Emotional Blackmail!

Arjun Rampal walked away with the Golden Kela for the Worst Supporting Actor (Male) for his role in ‘Housefull’. And while Kangana Ranaut was nominated three times (out of five) for the Worst Supporting Actress Award (in ‘Kites’,’ No Problem’ and ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai’), she bagged it for her role in ‘Kites’.

The Golden Kelas for the Worst Newcomer Male and Female were bagged by Aditya Narayana for ‘Shaapit’ and Pakhi Tyrewala for ‘Jhootha Hi Sahi’ respectively.

In addition to these awards, the Golden Kelas were awarded to a number of other celebrities in various interesting categories. Some of these include the Golden Kela for the Worst Song (‘Pre Loon’ from ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbai’), the Golden Kela for the Worst Lyrics (Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ‘Sau Gram Zindagi’ in ‘Guzaarish’), the Golden Kela for the Most Original Story (Action Replayy); the Golden Kela for the Worst Trilogy (Golmaal series); and the Golden Kela for the Worst Animated Movie (‘Baru the Wonder Kid’).

In addition to the Golden Kelas for the worst performances of 2010, this time there was a new section called the ‘Anti-Kela’ awards which actually honored those who managed to come out with decent films and performances in the same year.

The mainstream movies awarded under this section were adjudged as being both meaningful and entertaining. Accordingly, the movies that received the ‘Anti-Kela’ awards this year include ‘Udaan’, ‘Love Sex aur Dhoka’, ‘Ishqiya’, ‘Peepli Live’, ‘Do Dooni Chaar’ and ‘Tere Bin Laden’.

‘Udaan’ which managed to reap in the maximum number of awards this year in almost all the prestigious awards functions, was given the ‘Anti- Kela’ award for being ‘2010’s Saving Grace’. ‘Dabaang’ which starred Salman Khan managed to win the Ajooba Award which translates to Sheer Awesomeness.
