No longer do men think that an excess of hair is a sign of virility. If in his opinion it does not accord with his appearance, he will remove it using the best solution that he can find.

Simple Solutions

There are simple solutions that can be done at home or in a salon in one or two sittings. On the other hand, there are solutions that are expensive in terms of both time and money, and can only be done by certified professionals. Two simple solutions are tweezing and waxing.

Tweezing can be done at home and all that is needed is a pair of tweezers that are specially designed for hair removal, even though a common, garden variety set of tweezers can also work. The process can be unpleasant because the tweezers pull out the hair completely and needs to be done one at a time. A week or two later, the process needs to be repeated because the hair and its follicles are still alive and active.

Waxing Away

Waxing is another temporary solution and can be equally unpleasant. Wax is spread over the area that is slated for hair removal and then removed, bringing the hair along with it. The wax needs to be removed with a quick jerk so as to spring the hair out of the follicle. Again, this process is unpleasant because a large number of hairs are being removed.

Modern Solutions

Two solutions that can be described as modern are the use of electrolysis and removal by laser. In electrolysis, an electric current is applied to the hair follicle, destroying it and rendering it unable to reproduce the hair. In some cases, the process needs to be repeated because the follicle is hardy and regenerates after a while. Since each hair needs to be destroyed individually, the process is time consuming, sometimes requiring months of treatments. Sometimes the process is painful and a local anesthetic needs to be used. This solution can only be applied in a salon under the supervision of a specialist.

Using a Laser

Another solution that is popular today is hair removal by laser. A laser beam is directed at the hair follicle and destroys the delicate tissue. This needs to be done to each individual hair and is also time-consuming. The laser can sometimes come into contact with the skin and causes some discomfort. Sometimes a local anesthetic needs to be applied to the area.
