INGREDIENTS : 400 grams of Rohu fish , 50 grams of mustard seed paste, 100 grams of curd, 1/2 of a small tomato ( finely chopped ), 1 tsp of turmeric, 1 tsp of red chili powder, 1/4 tsp of sugar, 4 tbsp of mustard oil, garam masala (2 cloves, 2 cinnamon, 2 cardamom ,), 1 bay leaf, salt to taste.

METHOD : Wash the fishes by running water through them. Stir up the curd and the mustard paste into a fine batter. Put the pieces in a tiffin box and pour the batter on the pieces. Now add the spices and the chopped tomato to the preparation and cover the fish well with the batter and the spices. Cover and set to marinate for an hour. Heat the mustard oil in a frying pan and add a bay leaf. After that add the marinated pieces of fish to the pan and fry with the entire batter for 2 minutes. Cover lid and let cook for another 20 minutes till the oil separates from the fish. Stir occasionally to prevent the fish from burning. Before removing from heat garnish with the garam masala.

Serve with piping hot rice.

COCONUT FISH CURRY

Cooking Time : 25 minutes

INGREDIENTS : 400 grams of Rohu fish, 200 grams of coconut paste, 1 small cup of hot water, 1 big onion, 1 inch of ginger, 1 tsp of turmeric, 1 tbsp of red chili powder, 1 tbsp of garam masala ( clove, cardamom, cinnamon ), 2 bay leaves, 3 tbsp of mustard oil, salt to taste.

METHOD : Make the onion and the ginger into a fine paste. Put the coconut paste into the water and keep aside. Heat the oil in a frying pan and add the bay leaves and the garam masala, When the sputtering ends add the onion and ginger paste to the oil and fry well on medium flame. As the onion becomes tender add turmeric, red chili powder and salt and fry well for some more time. When the oil separates from the spices add the pieces of fish and mix well. After having fried for another 5 minutes strain the coconut into the pan and let simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat and serve with rice.
