Atlas the Titan has to carry the load of the sky on his shoulders so that the sky does not fall on earth. That is one major weight lifting. Similarly, our knees carry the load of our entire body. Since the knee has to carry such an enormous load, thus it is more prone to injuries.

The first rule to have healthy knee is to make sure you do not gain too much of weight. Work out and eat a proper diet to keep the weight in moderation. Remember, it is your two knees that will have to carry the load. And they can only take so much. You do not want your knees to suffer too much.

Many of us make the mistake of working out too much when we start for the first time. Take jogging for example. That is an excellent exercise, and it helps to keep the knees strong and healthy. But know you limits. When you are a beginner, you cannot jog for miles. That will only put too much pressure on the knees and make the situation worse. Take it slow. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.

Remember; do not work out if you have any kind of knee injury. That will only make the matters worse. Take some time off and see a doctor.

Squats are a really good exercise for knees. While you are doing so, make sure you are using a power rack or a cage. That will ensure safe squatting. Now comes the question, how many you should do? It all depends on you. See how many you can do and set your goal accordingly.

I have already mentioned that the body weight can have adverse affect on the knee but other than that there can be other knee related problems. Some of them are Arthritis, Gout and Osteoporosis etc. All these joint related diseases tend to run in the family. So if you are having trouble with your knees check if any of your family members have any of these diseases and do not forget to mention that to your doctor.
