In order to keep your refrigerator in good condition it is extremely essential that you should keep your refrigerator clean and odor free. Odor is a common problem with this appliance. The main cause to such odor is that we store several types of food items inside the fridge and every item has got its own individual smell.

These items are both raw and cooked. Thus, it is extremely essential that you should take the necessary steps to keep your refrigerator odor free.

Here are some tips to help you do so:

1. You should maintain a routine for cleaning your refrigerator. Nowadays the refrigerators are mostly automatic in nature and therefore you do not need to defrost them manually. However, maintain a practice of cleaning your refrigerator at least once in a month or every fourth night.

2. If you see that there are some perishable items which are quite old and needs to be replaced, as they are no more eatable, immediately discard them.

3. While cleaning the refrigerator you should remove all the detachable shelves and racks and wash them carefully with hot and soapy water. You can also use bleach based cleaner to remove the odor and stains. You should also wipe the inside of the refrigerator with a soft towel and warm water.

4. You can also use a mixture of bleaching powder and water or a mixture of vinegar and water, to clean the inside part of the refrigerator. However, make sure that you also wipe it dry.

5. However, one of the best ways to prevent odor in the fridge beforehand is to cut a lemon into two halves and place them openly on two separate racks. Keep replacing them after alternate day. You can also place an open box of baking soda in a corner of your fridge. This will keep the refrigerator fresh and odor free.
