Uttarakhand is one of the most beautiful states of India filled with natural beauty and the surrounding Himalayas only make it even more beautiful. Located in the Northern India, the state is also often referred to as the Land of Gods because of the plenty of temples and religious places found in the state. The name Uttarakhand has been derived from “Uttara” meaning North and “Khand” meaning a part of the country.

The state of Uttarakhand has a total geographic area of 51,125 kilometer square and 93 percent of it is mountainous and 64 percent is covered by forest. The upper parts of the state are covered with Himalayan peaks and glaciers. 1. Mussoorie

One can visit the famous Kempti Falls, Jharipani Fall, Bhatta Falls, Mussoorie Lake, Lake Mist, Sahastradhara nearby in Dehradun, Gun Hill (It is accessible by cable car)etc and you can also shop at the famous Mall Road. During the season, the Company Garden also has beautiful flowers blooming over there. There are a few temples to visit also like Jwalaji Temple, Nag Devta Temple etc.

2. Nainital

Nainital is another very famous tourist summer destination because of the pleasant weather the place has in summers. Also known as the Lake district of India because of the many beautiful lakes found there, the place derives it names form the Naini Lake. Naini Lake is one of the famous tourist spots over there and has a mythological connection to it as well. Naini Peak is the highest peak of the place. Snow View is situated at an altitude of 2,270 m and is easily reachable by the cable car. Bhimtal Lake, Khurpa Tal, Naukuchia Tal etc are other beautiful lakes situated over there, which are visited by thousands of tourists.

3. Haridwar

Haridwar is an important pilgrimage city of India.It is one of the holiest places as it is one of the four places where drops of Amrit fell, according to Hindu Mythology.

The Holy River Ganges flow from the city and Har Ki Pauri is one of the places there where devotees take the holy dip. There are many temples in the city and the Evening Arti is always looked forward to in the city. The famous Kumbh Mela is also held in the city.

4. Valley of Flowers

Valley of Flowers is a National park known for the amazingly beautiful flowers and astonishing natural beauty. It is located in the West Himalayas. There is also Nanda Devi National Park to the east, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. There is a trek to the valley which starts from Govindghat, and while trekking you can see the beautiful snow capped peaks of the mountains and natural beauty. The valley is full of rare beautiful flowers. The best time to visit the valley is from June to October, as it is the time when most of the flowers are in full bloom.

5. Corbett National Park

The people who are adventure seekers and look forward to an adventure filled holiday may head towards Corbett National Park. Situated in Nainital District, it is one of the oldest national parks.

The park has wide variety of plants and many species of animals. It is a famous weekend destination for people in North India for Jungle Safari, Adventure activities etc. People generally go there to find the rare Bengal Tiger, which if you are lucky will get to see.

6. Char Dham Yatra

The holy char Dham yatra which is the ultimate dream of every Hindu consists of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath Dhams and usually starts from Haridwar and ends at Haridwar only. One can visit the char Dham from May to October. In some places some trekking is required. The temples are connected by roads and lakhs of pilgrims visit the places for the whole year. It is also called the Chota Char Dham yatra. Kedarnath is the remotest of all the four sites and can be reached only after a 13 kilometer long steep walk.

7. Ranikhet

Also known as “Queen’s Meadow”, this place is known for its mesmerizing beauty. It is a cantonment area and is surrounded with beautiful hills.

The various places of tourist interest are Bhalu Dam (an artificial lake), Chaubatia Gardens, Manila, Khairna, various temples etc. The place is an ideal summer retreat for the nature lovers.

8. River Rafting

Adventure lovers can opt for river rafting which is very popular among people of all age groups in Rishikesh. Camps are organized for people who are enthusiastic about water sports. One can enjoy rafting in the waters of Ganges which flows from the Himalayas, and ideal for rafting.

9. Lansdowne

Lansdowne is a small hill station located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. The place is known for its beautiful scenery and weather.

The best time to visit the place is between May and October and if one wants to experience the snowfall, then one can go and experience snowfall in winters. It is a quaint little town and if you want to escape the daily rushing lives, then this is the ideal place.
