Potassium: Bananas are enriched with a high quantity of potassium which reduces high blood pressure and related diseases like strokes and heart attacks. They help to prevent low density lipoprotein from oxidizing which causes it to stick to the walls of arteries. One large banana, about 9 inches in length, carries 602 mg of potassium and only 140 calories.

Bananas are believed to be a natural antacid which prevent ulcers from forming in our stomachs. It stimulates the production of protective mucus which does not allow harsh acids from touching the wall of the stomach, thereby preventing ulcers. The protease inhibitor found in bananas is said to kill bacteria which help to form ulcers.

Bananas contain electrolytes which are very important to maintain fluid levels and preventing dehydration. Its vitamin B6 helps your nervous system and immune system. Vitamin c helps the immune system as well and there are many other vitamins and minerals in the banana like Thiamine, vitamin A, Riboflavin, Niacin, calcium and magnesium.

Folate in bananas help tissue growth, prevents birth defects, heart diseases and cancer.

Fibre: As the fruit is high in fibre, it will help you with problems such as constipation.

Banana peel is supposed to be good for rose bushes so go ahead and bury the peel near a rose bush!

So make sure you eat lots of bananas. If they are not your favourite you can always smash them up and add them to other dishes in which you will not get its taste very distinctly. Green bananas or plantains as they are otherwise known, can be cooked and you can turn out really good dishes with this very nutritious fruit.
