OCD could be cured through medicines. Physicians often prescribe antidepressant drugs that act on the neurotransmitters of the brain. Studies have shown that OCD may be linked to Attention Deficit Disorders and Tourette’s syndrome. Children who have Sydinham’s Chorea and Rheumatoid fever might develop OCD later in life if their disease is left untreated at the early stage of infection.

Behavior Therapy


The first step to cure OCD is to teach the patient relaxation techniques. After the therapist is assured that the patient has learnt the relaxation techniques and is able to demonstrate the skills efficiently, the therapist exposes the patient to systematic desensitization and flooding techniques to help complete cure from OCD.

Systematic Desensitization and Flooding Technique

In this technique, the OCD sufferer is exposed to various situations that arouse anxiety. The relaxation skill learned previously helps the patient to cope with the anxiety provoking situations.

Saturation and thought Stopping Technique

In this form of psychotherapy, the patient suffering from OCD is told to think only about that particular thought with which he or she is obsessed. After concentrating on a single thought over a period of time, the strength of the obsession gradually weakens. The patient in this way learns to identify his or her obsessive thought and the obsession could be eliminated by following the thought with an unexpected opposite response.
