As per the records available, more than a million women get affected by acute PIDs in an average year and that 2 out of 9 adolescent girls have the chances of contracting PIDs before they turn twenty years.

PIDs are very dangerous and if ignored or left untreated can lead pelvic pains, ectopic pregnancies and loss of fertility.

Symptoms And Causes Of Pelvic inflammatory Diseases:

The most common symptom of PID is excruciating lower abdominal pain. Other symptoms include- pain in penetration sex, pain during urination, foul smell in vaginal discharge, amount of vaginal discharge more than normal, fever, irregular menstruation.

The causes of PIDs are- if you had suffered PIDs in the past, then there are chances of its recurrence; using IUD also increases the chances of PIDs; you will suffer from PID if you have gonorrhea or chlamydia; and most of the when bacteria’s travel from the vagina or the cervix into the reproductive organs like fallopian tubes, it results in PIDs- that is the reason people lay so much stress on personal hygiene. These bacteria’s are also found in the STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea.

Diagnosis Of Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases:

One way of preventing PID is practicing safer sex so as not to contract STDs and also getting the IUD tested before contraception. A doctor can diagnose PID on the basis of the symptoms like- tenderness in ovaries, lower abdomen, cervix and fallopian tubes. Laparoscopy or ultrasound is used for this diagnosis.

It is not easy to diagnose PID in the early stages but once detected, treatment should not be delayed. Doctors recommend anti-biotic for treatment. However, the damage already done cannot be repaired. It can only get worse if not treated.
