1 pound of ground beef

1 pound of Italian sausage (casings should be removed)

1 onion (finely chopped)

2 cloves of garlic ( minced )

1 can of diced tomatoes

2 tsp of dried crushed basil

2 tsp of dried ground oregano

1 1/2 tsp of salt

2 cans of tomato paste (6 ounces each)

10-12 oven-ready lasagna noodles

3 cups of ricotta cheese

1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese

2 tbsp of dried parsley flakes

2 eggs ( lightly beaten )

1 tsp of salt

1/2 tsp of pepper

2( 8-ounce each ) packages of mozzarella cheese, shredded


The sausage is to be browned slowly and the excess fat is to be drained off. The beef is also to be browned in a separate skillet along with onion and garlic and the grease is to be drained. Now add the meat and the sausage to a frying pan and add basil, oregano, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt and pepper. Now add the diced tomatoes and the tomato paste to this. Boil for a few minutes, reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 30 to 45 minutes. You may add a little water if the gravy is too thick. Add the lasagna noodles and salt to boiling water and cook according to package directions. Now in a small bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, parsley, eggs, 1 teaspoon of salt and pepper. Place a layer of noodles on the bottom of a 13x9x2-inch baking dish. Now cover this uniformly with a layer of mozzarella cheese. Then cover this layer of mozzarella with the mixture prepared earlier with the ricotta cheese. On top of this add a layer of the meat sauce. Repeat the layers ending with a layer of mozzarella cheese. Cover with an aluminium foil and bake for 45 minutes preheating the oven to 350 degrees F. Remove from oven, uncover and bake for another 10 minutes.

Let the lasagna to cool and get set for a few minutes before serving.
