Solutions for Urinary Tract Infections - Bladder Urinary Tract Infections - Urinary Tract Infections Causes | Tips on - Find TipsA urinary tract infection is one of the most common types of infections which occur in our bodies. Urine is usually free of bacteria, fungi and viruses. Infections occur when organisms, usually bacteria from the digestive tract get into the urethra which is the passage that takes urine from the bladder to the outside. If not treated immediately it may get serious. So here’s what to look out for and how to cure it.

Do not ignore the symptoms. A very common symptom is a burning sensation while urinating. An urge to urinate very frequently is also another symptom. Some people with this infection feel pain even when they are not urinating. Feeling tired and lethargic may occur. Some women feel pressure above the pubic bone and some men feel fullness around the rectum. Urine may look white and cloudy or it may look reddish. Fever, vomiting, nausea and pain in the lower back or side may occur if the infection has reached the kidneys. Unlike adults children may only have fever with no other symptoms.

Do regular urine tests if pregnant. As women are more prone to urinary tract infections, pregnant women should be more careful because the probability of the infection reaching the kidneys in such a condition is much more. The shift in position of the urinary tract and hormonal changes while pregnant could be causes for pregnant women to be at a higher risk.

Antibacterial drugs. Once diagnosed with a urinary tract infection your doctor will prescribe antibacterial drugs which solve the problem in most cases. It is important to take the prescribed amount of medicine because symptoms may disappear although the infection is still not cured.

Food and drink. During treatment it is best to avoid alcohol and coffee and drink plenty of water. Avoid consuming very spicy food. Quit smoking or reduce the amount of cigarettes that you smoke per day. Smoking causes cancer in the bladder. Some doctors recommend drinking cranberry juice.

Practise proper daily habits. Do not resist the urge to urinate. Keep the genital area clean but take showers instead of a tub bath. Wipe your self from front to back to avoid bacteria entering the urethra from the anus.
