Diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer

1. Physical Examination

This is done by doctor to detect any tumors in the abdominal region. Doctor will press your abdomen to see any pains or masses.

2. Blood test

The blood samples are taken and are sent to the lab for analyzing CA-125 in the blood. High level of CA-125 is an indication of ovarian cancer as they are associated with cancer causing cells.

3. Ultra Sound Scanning

It is used to take the pictures of the internal organs. It uses the sound waves to take the pictures. It will help to disclose any tumors present in the ovary.

4. Transvaginal Color Flow Doppler

This is used to measure the blood flow to the ovaries. A high frequency probe is kept in the vagina and the blood flow is measured. A tumor cell in the ovary requires more new blood vessels than normal for blood circulation. These blood vessels will cause less or no resistance to the blood flow than in the normal ovarian cells. Less resistance and speed of the blood flow is an indication of the ovarian cancer.

5. Biopsy

If your blood tests and ultra sound scanning tests are positive then your doctor will recommend for a biopsy to confirm the cancer. Here your doctor will take some fluid from the tumor in the abdominal or pelvic region and send it to the lab for further analysis.

An early diagnosis with routine check ups will help you to detect the disease early
