Factors Affecting Fertility

There are many factors affecting conception like:

1. Age; after about 35 years, the ability to conceive declines.

2. Intercourse frequency; couples who do not have sex frequently have less chance of conceiving.

3. In women one of the organs of reproduction might be absent.

4. Excess body weight or low weight might cause infertility.

5. Eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia and deficiency of vitamin D can have an impact on fertility.

6. Smoking, drugs and alcohol also contribute to infertility.

7. Pelvic inflammatory disease in women is a major cause of infertility.

Diet to Increase Fertility

Excess Protein

Women should try to reduce their protein consumption if they want to conceive. They should try to restrict their protein intake to around 20%, because more than 30% of protein intake can reduce their ability to conceive. Too much protein will increase the amount of ammonium in their reproductive tracts.

Iron Consumption

Iron is a very important supplement for women, as it reduces the risk of infertility. Iron deficiency leads to anemia in pregnant women. Meat and poultry are rich in iron.

Physical Activity and Reducing Insulin Level

Being overweight can also lead to infertility. Research shows that physical activities of at least an hour every week can reduce the risk of ovulatory infertility by about 7%. The insulin level has to be reduced because this helps in weight loss, which regularizes the function of the ovaries and thereby increase fertility.

Multivitamin Use

Vitamins and minerals are very essential for women’s fertility. Diet consisting of fruits, vegetables and whole wheat are rich in vitamins and minerals. Multivitamins containing zinc, folic acid and vitamin B6 and B12 are also very much essential for conception. Supplement containing fatty acid is also essential.

Calcium Intake:

Calcium is also needed for fertility. Consume foods such as yoghurt, cheese, broccoli, oranges, fish, etc.

Women who follow these fertility diets have more chances of reducing infertility and increasing chances of becoming pregnant.
