The prospect of a week in Los Angeles, movie capital of the world, thrilled me to my terribly glamorous core but it did pose one very big question; what ever am I going to wear?

I had only just stepped off the plane when I was whisked to the Student Academy Awards in Beverly Hills. (Seriously, I only had an hour and a half in the hotel to perform a beauty miracle!) These awards are the prestigious little sister of the major league Oscars, so it was a big deal fashion wise but I had to strike the right balance between Hollywood glamour and what was still essentially a non-red carpet event! I think I found the perfect outfit in this fun, yellow Rare Fashion dress (above.) The black zip and belt kept it casual and young, and played down with simple black Javari flats and jacket I feel I made the right statement: Young Hollywood!!

Indeed online shoe retailer Javari (.co.uk) were my go-to site for matching the right flats and heels to outfits for every Hollywood occassion. They have such a wide range and every visit I am amazed at what bargains are to be found, they never fail to impress.

When I had to do a photo shoot in Beverly Hills I again called on Rare Fashion (and a bag I designed myself) to create that Gossip Girl/ 90210 vibe! See here in this behind-the-scenes shot on a particularly gorgeous palm tree lined street! The simple and chic pleat skirt and cream top were attached and when accessorized with a New Look cherry necklace I cut a rather elegant figure – even if I do say so myself!!

When it came to down time, chilling by the pool and sipping cocktails at Santa Monica’s Shangri-la Hotel (yes, even down times were impossibly glam!) it was time to slip on an elegant little number from Bonprix (.co.uk) This chic, blue and white kimono dress was perfect for slipping on over a bikini for pool and beach sunbathing and screamed Old School Hollywood when shot in Black and White! So versatile without losing any of the elegance!

Speaking of Old School Hollywood, nothing says it more than this mushroom playsuit from ol’ reliable Rare which has a gorgeous 40's vibe! It’s one of those outfits you can dress up or down, the latter I did for a day in Hollywood (above) where preparations were in full swing for the Cars 2 film premiere! Flattering to all body shapes, the drape over the bust creates the illusion of curves where one might not have them (perhaps as in my case!)

Style Summary: So is it possible to achieve the Hollywood Movie Star look on a less than A-list budget?! Well judge for yourself, did my fashion choices hit the mark? I certainly didn’t feel out of place in my high street and online perchases! In fact, I rather think I pulled it off with flair and fabulosity, which only goes to show one thing; you don’t need a celebrity stylist to compete with the stars…you just need to know where to shop!

Photos were taken using the Kodak Easy Share camera – the cutest, compact digital camera with touchscreen (yep, cameras have gone touchscreen now!)
