The Illusionist Movie Review, The Illusionist Movie Story, Movie Review & RatingSet in Scotland’s picturesque capital Edinburgh, ‘The Illusionist’ is a newly released animation film that has been claimed to be a visual treat for movie goers. Boasting of a simple and sweet storyline, ‘The Illusionist’ is all about a magician/illusionist who performs wherever he can.

Although he would have preferred huge crowds, the illusionist settles for smaller crowds, usually curious bystanders and interested locals who manage to get a laugh or two out of his not so perfect magical tricks.

One of the illusionist’s more popular gigs involves performing in a local pub in a small town in Scotland first and then slowly making his way to the capital. That is how he ends up in Edingburh. On the way, he is joined by a girl he meets at the village.

The rest of the film showcases the illusionist’s desperate attempts to capture an audience as he moves from one town to another and finally to the capital with the girl he befriends. A sweet, simple and pretty story that would definitely delight children and adults alike!

Set in the 1950s’, the movie is visually stunning as viewers are treated to the strange and mysterious beauty of Edingburh back then. The charm of the city in the early 50’s has been captured just like it was in the olden days and provided to the viewers in the form of completely beautiful visuals. Even the smaller details have been tweaked to perfection, making it nearly impossible for the audience to find a flaw anywhere in the backdrop.

The technical animation in ‘The Illusionist’ deserves a special mention and is in fact laudable. It is almost flawless and simultaneous, which in turn make it pleasing to watch the movie as it unfolds. And thanks to the eye popping backdrops, the characters themselves look polished and beautiful. The individual movements of the characters are smooth without any loose ends whatsoever.

Director Sylivain Chomet has decided to follow a new approach in the animation genre by making minimal use of dialogues and maximum use of gestures and expressions. And so, it is not surprising to note that nearly 80% of the film comes without any dialogues. And whatever dialogues that are present in the film are mere sporadic pieces that are spoken at the spur of the moment.

The film begins to lose its pace during the final 20 minutes but makes up for it with the stunning visuals that keep you fixed to your seat until the movie ends. And by the time the final credits roll by, you will have the satisfaction of having watched a neat and pleasant animation film sans car chases, murders, explosions, blood or other horrible stuff that mostly finds its way into most of the animation films made today.

A fun flick for all ages, the movie would be a treat for your children and enable you to sit back and enjoy a kiddie flick for once. As they say, Actions say more than words.
