Twilight Saga Wins PeopleIt was ‘Twilight Saga’ all the way at the 37th Annual People’s Choice Awards for 2011 which was held recently (January 5, 2011) at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Recognising various people and the works of popular cultures, the show (held since 1975) and its winners are voted for by the general public.

Twilight Saga managed to walk away with four awards which included the award for the Favorite Movie, Favorite Drama Movie, Favorite Movie Actress (Kristen Stewart) and Favorite On-Screen Team (Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattison and Taylor Lautner). Clearly the winner of the night with four major awards, ‘Twilight Saga’ managed to beat films like Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland, Iron Man 2 and Inception.

The ‘Favorite Movie Actor’ award went to 47 year old Johny Depp for his power packed performance in Alice in Wonderland that positioned him higher than his counterparts Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson, both of whom were serious contenders for the same title. However, at the end of the day, the veteran star managed to prove that when age and experience come into play, its experience that matters and not age!

Robert Patinson also lost out to Zac Efron (Hairspray) in the ‘Favorite Movie Star Under 25' cateogry which also had other interesting nominees like Emma Watson (Harry Potter), Kristen Stewart (Twilight Saga), and Vanessa Hudgens (Disney Channel). Even though he was nominated for several other categories, Robert Pattinson failed to win any individual awards.

These included Queen Latifah’s ‘Dynamite’ (with the help of Taio Cruz’s vocals), ‘A Year Without Rain’ which was performed by Selena Gomez & The Scene, and ‘God Bless Saturday’ which was performed by Kid Rock.

This year’s awards (the 37th edition) showed a new form on online polling wherein the organisation committee included for the very first time Internet Viewing data into the initial nominee selection process. Accordingly, the nominees for the various awards were picked out by checking out their online video popularity. Even though the selection process raised a few controversies, it looks like the fans are happy with the final choices.
