US Warns Foreign Leaders That New WikiLeaks Revelations

US Warns Foreign Leaders That New WikiLeaks RevelationsThe release of thousands of classified US documents by WikiLeaks, the whistle blower website has left the country red faced as it finds itself in an awkard position to clarify everything that is contained in the documents to the leaders in other countries.

And one particular set of documents (apparently classified US embassy cables) that has irked leaders worldwide, contains information and impressions of influential leaders around the world, as seen by the US ambassadors and ministers in foreign countries. Apparently, the US was putting up a bright show in front of these leaders while speaking ill about them behind their backs.

Here are a few snippets from the original documents which reveal what the US actually thought about its allies.

The Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin

Shortly after the present Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev assumed power in Russia, cables were transmitted from the diplomats in the country to the US about the seemingly false portrayal of power as displayed by the Russian Government.

Accordingly, the cables pointed out the fact that even though Medvedev was officially the senior partner to Putin in the Russian Government, the former behaved like ‘Robin’ while Putin behaved like ‘Batman’.

Vladimir Putin was also described as being an ‘alpha dog’ who supposedly shared a close relationship with his Italian counterpart, Silvio Berlusconi with whom the former exchanged frequent ‘lavish’ gifts. The thought that Berlusconi was increasingly becoming “the mouthpiece of Putin” in Europe also troubled US officials, the cables reported.

The Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi

US diplomats did not spare their European counterparts as well. Accordingly, the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi may be a powerful leader but was a physically and politically weak individual at home, or so cables reported.

He was also described as being a vain, feckless and ineffective European leader. Diplomats have also reported in the cables that were transmitted to the US that Mr Berlusconi’s freuquent late nights and penchant for partying hard left him with very little time to get sufficient rest.

French President, Nicholas Sarkozy

This one takes the cake! Apparently, an American memo that was sent to the US regarding the affairs in France described the French President, Nicholas Sarkozy as ‘an emperor with no clothes’ in addition to labeling him as a thin skinned individual with rigid control of his personal style.

The Afghan President, Hamid Karzai

Cables that were secretly dispatched from Kabul have described the Afghan President to be an extremely weak individual who does not listen to the facts of the matter but rather believes anything and anyone who tells about even the most bizarre stories and plots if they are againt him.

Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Cables from the American Embassy in Iran have picturised the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as being similar to Adolf Hitler. The document further reveal that the President of Saudi Arabia, King Abdullah continuously urged America to intervene and destroy Iran’ s nuclear program, resorting to military action if needed. He is also reported to have asked America to ‘cut the head off the snake’.

Libyan Leader, Muammar Gaddafi

A US diplomat apparently snubbed the Libyan Leader, Muammar Gaddafi as being unable to travel without being accompanied by his Ukranian nurse, whom the diplomat described as being a ‘voluptuous blond’.

A report from the US embassy in Tripoli also states that the Libyan Leader was afraid of flying over water and staying on upper floors in addition to revealing that he also enjoyed flamenco dancing and horse racing.

India has not been left out as well. Apparently, Hillary Clinton has called the country a ‘self appointed frontrunner’ for a UN Security Council Seat. Although the statement was taken in the stride and did not offend many in India, others have not taken things lightly and are demanding for an explanation from the super power.

Only time will tell as to what repurcusions these leaks would cause. As for now, the US is urging its allies to take things light and is trying its best to prove that the documents released by WikiLeaks are false.

Meanwhile, the US government urged all web server domains in the US to stop hosting the WikiLeaks website in a bid to stop more sensitive documents from being released.

However, with plenty of revelations still in the pipeline, it remains to be seen if the US is successful in stopping the leak. WikiLeaks founders though have moved back to their original Swedish web server and as of now, the site is temporary unavailable.
