The Jurong Bird Park, covering an area of 20.2 hectares, is regarded as the largest bird park in the world. The park has over 4600 birds covering as many as 380 species.

The main attractions of the park are Bird Discovery Center, Lory Loft Aviary and the African Wetlands which has already won many awards and are destined to win some more. The Park receives as many as 900,000 visitors every year.

Shows

The Jurong Bird Park is home to many world class shows which makes this attraction extra special. The Birds n Buddies Show takes place at Pools Amphitheater on a daily basis at 11 am and 3 pm. It is a real visual extravaganza which showcases the largest collection of birds and costumed characters. The show is the only one of its kind where the maximum number of live birds is used on stage. This is an interactive program where the audience too will get an opportunity to be a part of the show.

The star attractions of the show include Amigo, the yellow napped Amazon and Sassy the Cockatoo. Apart from them, the Flaminogos and Macaws are also part of this star studded show. The buddies are there to add genuine comic relief to the show. The Birds n Buddies Show is held in the Amphitheater which has a capacity to seat 2,000 people. The venue has a rustic feeling all around due to the platform huts.

The Early Breakfast Show is held at Bongo Terrace. The breakfast starts at 8:30am and the show starts at 9:30pm. In order to attend the show, the visitors must purchase a Bongo Breakfast item. You can enjoy your American breakfast in the company of your new found feathered friends at Jurong bird Park. The visitors are allowed to take pictures with the stars of the show – Ippy the Macaw and Merlin the Amazon.

The King of the Skies Show is held at the Fuji Hawk Walk at 10am and at 4pm. Here you will witness the most ferocious predators like eagles, hawks, falcons and vultures. You can come close to these birds in this show and even try your hand at falconry. The Lunch with Parrots Show is extremely popular with the kids. But you need to purchase any food or beverage item from songbird terrace for attending this show. The lunch is from 12 noon to 2 pm and the 30 min show starts at 1pm. The buffet lunch costs SGD 19.00 per adult.

Attractions

The African Waterfall Aviary is a walk-in aviary that has a netted ceiling to enable the sunlight to come through. The ceiling is as high as 13 apartment floors which make it possible for the birds to fly around freely. The best part of the walk-in aviary is the suspension bridge where there is an abundance of African bird feeders. The exhibit is full of different varieties of Starlings which makes it a treat to watch. The whole setting represents a natural African tropical rainforest. There are as many as 50 species of birds like Starlings, Turacos, Carmine Bee – eaters, Rollers and Whydahs.

Jungle Jewels Flight Aviary lets you observe from close quarters the diverse nature of a South American rainforest. The area is spread over 2300 sq m and it has a huge collection of small South American birds. The main species of birds that you will come across here are the Red – crested Cardinals and Yellow – hooded Blackbirds.

The Lory Loft is now regarded as the world’s largest aviary for Lory Lofts. These birds are actually found in Australia and Indonesia and are brilliantly colored and beautiful to look at. The aviary covers a total area of 3000 sq m and there is a 8 – storey high loft that allows the visitors a full 360 degree view of the environment. There is also a central feeding tower where the visitors will have the rare opportunity of feeding the birds from their hands. The Lories are great to watch and the area has close to thousand such birds.

The Jurong Bird park has a collection of more than 250 species of Southeast Asian birds, the largest such collection in the world. It is great fun to admire the natural beauty of the birds and listen to their soulful chirping. The nest logs are fully equipped with monitoring cameras as a part of conservation efforts. All efforts are undertaken to breed these birds and to increase their population. The tropical thunderstorm takes place at 12 noon daily and you should not miss this unique experience at any cost. The Southeast Asian Birds Aviary offers a great experience for the adults and the kids alike.

Dining

There are lots of dining options inside the Jurong Bird Park. The Bongo Burgers is a fully AC restaurant that has Africa as its theme. The best buys here would be the lean patties along with some quick bites. The restaurant opens at 8:30 in the morning. The top selling items in this restaurant are Bongo Turkey Ham, Bongo Chicken Sausage and Bongo Grilled Toast with Maple Syrup.

The Songbird Terrace is just overlooking the Flamingo Lake and is a well known place for Asian cuisine. The Asian Buffet Lunch will cost $19.00 only. The Hawk Café is located near the entrance of the Park and is easily accessible. The popular dishes in this eatery are Singapore Laksa, Nasi Lemak and Chicken Biryani rice Set. The good news is that you do need the admission tickets to dine in this fine restaurant.

Opening Hours & Rates

The park opens at 8:30 in the morning and the last admission is at 5:30pm. The tickets are priced at S$18.00 and the tickets for the Panorail are priced at S$5.00.

Getting Here

The MRT is the best option to reach here. You need to take the MRT to Boon Lay Station and then hop on SBS # 194 or 251. You can get the bus from the Boon Lay Bus Interchange.

This is the main store at Jurong Bird park where you can get lots of souvenirs, plush bags and soft toys. You can buy key chains, T – shirts and lots of other goodies here.
