Oily skin has a dull appearance. It attracts the surrounding dust and dirt and gives a bad impression. Oily skin has coarse skin pores which when blocked with dust and oil produces pimples. This skin type is prone to develop black heads and white heads. Oily skin ages only slowly.

Causes of Oily Skin

The skin gland produces excess oil than that is necessary and the oil got deposited on the skin surface giving a shiny appearance to the skin. The excess oil production can be due to heredity factors or hormonal imbalance. Adolescence, pregnancy, menopause etc are some situations which causes hormonal imbalance and a resulting oily skin. Birth control pills also play a role in hormonal imbalance. Humidity and hot weather might increase the oil secretion of the glands. Uses of some cosmetics also arouse the oil production.

Cares for Oily Skin

1. Wash your face with hot water and soap to remove the accumulated dust and dirt. Avoid too much washing as it stimulates the oil glands beneath and produce excess oil.

2. Avoid harsh soap and cleansing agents as the will leave your outer skin layer dry and shrink. This limits the oil flow and causes blocks and creates pimples.

3. Use oil based cleansing agents as they will effectively remove the oil contents on the skin surface.

4. Use oil free moisturizer cream daily to balance the oil content on the skin.

5. Avoid fatty foods from your diet.

6. Mud packs or clay pack will remove the excess oil from your skin and leave it clean and healthy.

7. A fresh tomato puree or a pack made up of tomato puree, oats and lemon juice is found to be highly effective against oily skin.

8. Boil rose buds and lemon grass in a cup of water and steam your face with light fumes for fifteen to twenty minutes. Then wash your face with cold water to remove the excess oil.

9. Make your diet rich with whole grains, vegetables, salads and fruits.

10. Application of papaya puree is found to be highly beneficial as it cleans and softens the skin.

11. Remove the black heads and white heads regularly to keep the pores open.

12. Make a pack with one table spoon lemon juice, one egg white, half table spoon honey and a pinch of brewer’s yeast. Apply it for twenty minutes and wash it off with luke warm water. It helps to improve your skin.

13. Use mild cleansing agents containing acetone to clean your skin as acetone dissolves oils easily.
