Generally, Dyslexia is not considered a widespread phenomenon but still it affects a significant proportion of population globally. It is a type of disability in which the affected person experience complexity in comprehending simple written idiom, predominantly in terms of understanding even simple spellings and extremely poor reading skills.

According to multiple researches done so far in the field of dyslexia, it has been concluded that dyslexia is the outcome of disparity exercised by human brain in processing verbal or written terms. However, it is not considered a cerebral problem.

Invention of the Term ‘Dyslexia’

The term ‘dyslexia’ was first invented by Rudolf Berlin who was an active ophthalmologist in Germany in the year 1887.

Types of Dyslexia

There are different kinds of dyslexia that has come to the knowledge of medical community so far.

- Surface Dyslexia

In surface dyslexia, an individual can interpret the words known to him or her but faces difficulty in understanding words that are asymmetrical.

- Phonological Dyslexia

In phonological dyslexia, a person is able to read normal as well as asymmetrical words but experience trouble in reading what we call non-terms (words) which have linking phonetic sound.

Symptoms of Dyslexia

Some of the common symptoms that can be observed in order to diagnose dyslexia in an individual are:

- Puzzlement related to directions.

- Have difficulty in memorizing a word or an alphabet.

- Experiences trouble while recalling a certain word.

- Complexity in remembering the phonetic sound of an alphabet.

- Misunderstanding nearly similar words.

- Faces trouble in judging the difference between time, speed and distance.

- Dyslexia in a kid can be diagnosed if the kid is having a delayed speech pattern.

- Increasing frequency of infection of ear.

- Have trouble in tying shoe laces or closing the shirt buttons.

- Out of sheer fear of speaking anything incorrectly, a person might withdraw into his or her own comfort zone and stop communication with anyone.

Dyslexia can be fully cured with lot of care and emotional help being extended to an affected person. Some of the known celebrities who have known to be suffered from dyslexia are Leonardo da Vinci, Tom Cruise, Abhishek Bachchan, Guy Ritchie and Thomas Alva Edison.
