Yeh Saali Zindagi Movie Review

Yeh Saali Zindagi Movie Review - Yeh Saali Zindagi Movie Story, Movie Review, Cast & RatingAfter many efforts in producing and directing thrillers or qualitative movies that would bring the audience to the edge of their seats in eagerness, Yeh Saali Zindagi directed by Sudhir Mishra seems to be a promising one in that area for 2011.

A new cult film amongst the regular Bollywood masala movies which seems to bring out the professionalism in Sudhir Mishra as a filmmaker who knows how to paint a picture the viewer would love to see.

Apart from his earlier hit films like ‘Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin’, ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ just to name a few this romantic thriller, ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’ captures the emotions of passion, trust and aggression alike that seep through the streets of the suburbs of Delhi. The film has already created buzz on the cinema front because of the controversy surrounding its provocative title. The word saali has not gone down well amongst the Censor Board members as it sounds offensive. But all in good terms the word saali is simply a form of casual expression in between dialogues and not an abusive, derogatory word.

The story takes place in Delhi’s underbelly (the underworld of Mumbai city has been explored enough). The narration is unfolded by the lead player Arun (played by Irrfan Khan) who is a gangster working for a Mehta (played Saurabh Shukla) who is a shady, no good gang lord. Arun has fortunately or unfortunately lost out his heart to one of Delhi’s crooner star Priti (played by Chitrangda Singh) a bold, vivacious girl and one who wears her heart on her sleeves. His love for her has not only turned his life upside down but he is also willing to take any risk that might bring her happiness.

On the other hand, another gangster by the name of Kuldeep (played by Arunoday Singh) who is on his last mission working as the bad guy but is living in a messed up life as he is unable to reconcile with his wife Shanti (played by Aditi Rao Hyadri) a lady lass who knows how to keep her husband ‘on her fingers’, by threatening to leave him she feels that he might quit the underworld. But destiny has made its choice.

Arun tries his best in wooing the female he loves but to accomplish that he has to save a man Shyam (played by Vipul Gupta) whom Priti loves dearly. Now Shyam who happens to be the future son-in-law of a powerful minister is kidnapped by Kuldeep. Unfortunately for all three characters (4 if you consider Shyam) that is Arun, Priti and Kuldeep the ‘kidnapping’ plan backfires on them, catapulting them into a dark and dangerous game of survival. As the engagement of Shyam is broken off, the minister nor his daughter are interested about life thereby leaving Kuldeep empty handed.

Before any one of them could take the situation under control (Arun saving Priti from this mess therefore risking himself for a woman who doesn’t love him, Kuldeep trying to figure out a way of getting his ransom and his wife back and Shyam making negotiations with his captor) a underworld gang from Bangkok arrives, who seem to have plans of their own.

This movie has everything right from love torn characters to twisted tales of treachery, aggression, pain, corrupt politians and officers, violence, fresh tales of new characters all reaching to a crescendo. Its one hell of a roller-coaster ride where one’s thinking capacity is blocked by the en number of events surrounding him.

The picturesque visuals of Delhi by cinematographer Sachin Kumar Krishnan, is beautiful, mind blowing capturing the quintessential underbelly, side alleys and dungy suburbs of Delhi (which unfortunately Delhi 6 didn’t match up to). Yeh Saali Zindagi’s music composed by Nishat Khan has everyone grooving to the movies tunes and the lyrics are penned by Swanand Kirkire. This is one movie worth watching again and again and it would still blow your mind off every time you watch it. Kudos Sudhir Mishra for another brilliant gangster movie!
